To change a valve simply remove the 4 bolts, separate the 2 flanges that hold the valve in the piping and remove the valve. It may be necessary to loosen one of the rubber couplings and slip it back on the pipe to get the necessary clearance, about 1/4" as there is a small lip on each flange which holds the lip seal in place.
Installing the new ballast valve is also very simply; first the gate must be closed. Apply the Dow 111 grease liberally to both sides of the gate. Second, put the 2 lip seals on each flange, NOT IN THE VALVE! Third, slide the valve into position between the 2 seals on the flanges, pull the flanges together, and hold them while replacing the 4 bolts. Tighten the nuts finger tight, then tighten them NO more than 1.5 full turns. Plug in the electrical,cycle a few times to insure the valve is working properly and you are done.
